Illustrations Showing the Struggle of Living with Mental Illness
It can be hard to explain mental illness to anyone who has never experienced it, and despite all the attention mental health issues have received over the past few years, many people still don’t know how widespread these problems are in America.
The reality is that millions of people in the U.S. cope with anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, bipolar disorder and more on a daily basis. These people are all around you but because they’re afraid of being judged or ridiculed, they choose to suffer in silence instead of getting help.
As time passes, they get better at hiding their problems and act like perfectly functioning members of society, but what lies just below the surface will shock you.
To help show what that can be like, Gemma Correll teamed up with Mental Health America to design illustrations that provide enlightening insights into the lives of people dealing with mental disorders. Corell hopes her illustrations will help foster better understanding of mental illnesses and the people who have them. You can check out her work on her Instagram.
